Visit Gaudí's spectacular crypt in the
Colonia Güell industrial village, the mountain of
Montserrat with the Royal Basilica of Montserrat and
La Moreneta (Virgin of Montserrat), and also see inside one of the mountain's great secrets: the L'Escolania de Montserrat choir school where the boys live and study.
Departing by bus from Barcelona, the first stop will be the Colonia Güell, where you will make a tour of the crypt of the church that the businessman Eusebi Guell commissioned the architect Antoni Gaudí for his industrial colony of workers.
The crypt of the church that Gaudí designed for the Colònia Güell is one of the most outstanding buildings of the architect: he experienced on it numerous architectural solutions later used in the construction of The Sagrada Familia. The Crypt was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005.
You will continue to Montserrat mountain, that has traditionally been considered Catalonia’s most famous mountain range. At the top of the mountain is the Basilica of Montserrat and inside it the image of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat (Virgin of Montserrat) is venerated. Widely and affectionately known as La Moreneta (the little dark-skinned one), she has been the patron saint of Catalonia since 1881.
You will go to the top of the mountain by Montserrat’s Rack railway. It leaves you right in the middle of the monastery and offers a spectacular view of the mountain.
Delight yourself with a guided tour of Montserrat and enjoy the admission to Montserrat Museum.
Finally, look inside the L’Escolania de Montserrat, one of Europe’s oldest boys’ choirs. Documents dating back as far as the 14th century bear witness to the existence of a religious and musical choir school at Montserrat.
You will see areas such as the classrooms, the library and the laboratory, the music school and the choir’s rehearsal
room, the soundproof booths for studying instruments and the musical library.
After free time, you will return to Barcelona.
